19:42<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-18c11e1d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"18c11e1d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>My hope is that the following thoughts will be an introduction to read the Passion slowly, using one\u2019s imagination to picture the scene and be present in it.\u00a0\u00a0 One of the better known sayings of\u00a0 Saint Bernadette\u00a0 is:\u00a0 \u201cThe Passion touches me more when I read it than when someone explains it to me\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 May this be an incentive to us to read it meditatively.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-53370ef elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"53370ef\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"674\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7d38dc48 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7d38dc48\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>As we read the Passion according to Saint John, it is very clear from the beginning that Jesus is in control.\u00a0\u00a0 In the presence of the soldiers there to arrest Him in the garden, He takes the initiative and asks:\u00a0 \u201cWho are you looking for?\u201d (18:4)\u00a0\u00a0 These words set the scene.\u00a0\u00a0 Jesus\u2019 attitude and dispositions towards HIs Passion had already been expressed when He said;\u00a0 \u201cThe Father loves me because I lay down my life in order to take it up again.\u00a0\u00a0 No one takes it from me;\u00a0 I lay it down of my own free will\u201d\u00a0 (John 10:17-18).\u00a0\u00a0 There is remarkably little mention of the agony that He goes through.\u00a0\u00a0 Pilate is anxious (verse 8) and fearful (verse 12) because although he has power (verse 11), he does not have control in spite of being able to give orders.<\/p><p>The desire of Jesus is focused on accomplishing the Father\u2019s design for Him, that He be consistent and faithful to His mission as well as the values of the Kingdom right to the end.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>One of the key words to understanding Jesus attitude is\u00a0 willingness.\u00a0\u00a0 As a Christian do I call upon the same Spirit that moved Jesus, the\u00a0 Holy Spirit, to make me\u00a0 <em>willing <\/em>\u00a0rather than willful or even unwilling, so that I remain in control as I carry my Cross?\u00a0 On account of His willingness, there is no trace of self-pity in Jesus at all.\u00a0\u00a0 Do I ask the question:\u00a0 \u201cWhy me?\u201d\u00a0 instead of accepting what the Lord allows in my life.<\/p><p>Mary is silent \u2013 without question or comment &#8211; at the foot of the Cross where she stands (John 19:25) &#8211; a consequence of her willingness to accept the mystery of her Son\u2019s death.<\/p><p>We have the example of\u00a0 Saint Bernadette to help us as well.\u00a0\u00a0 While she was on her deathbed, a sister said she would ask our Immaculate Mother to console her but Saint Bernadette responded:\u00a0 \u201cNo, no consolations, only strength and patience.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5e83b93 elementor-widget elementor-widget-testimonial\" data-id=\"5e83b93\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"testimonial.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-testimonial-wrapper\">\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-testimonial-meta elementor-has-image elementor-testimonial-image-position-aside\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-testimonial-meta-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-testimonial-image\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Lord Jesus Christ, even with the weakness of human flesh that You took upon Yourself, You do not yield control of Your life in Your Passion but willingly accepted to be subjected to Pilate\u2019s power.\u00a0\u00a0 Take me from where I am and give my Your Holy Spirit that I may have that same willingness to accept all that the Father allows in my life and so come to a mature faith which gives glory to You.<\/p><p><span class=\"s1\">Let us pray the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory be.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Let us
