In this way, he turned his consultation activity, which he had been performing occasionally every summer since 1879, into a permanent activity.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-43514c2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"43514c2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The letter by the Archbishop of Cagliari, Mgr Vincenzo Gregorio Berchialla, dated 3 September 1886 and forwarded from Rome to Dr Dunot de Saint-Maclou, relates the assent of Pope Leo XIII to the Bureau\u2019s rigorous procedures<span class=\"orange\"><sup>\u00a0(1)<\/sup><\/span>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7daf3e0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7daf3e0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>After Dr Dunot de Saint-Maclou\u2019s death in 1891, it was\u00a0<strong>the Bishop of Tarbes who appointed the new permanent doctor<\/strong>\u00a0and thus President of the Bureau des Constatations: Dr Gustave Boissarie (1892).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ca828db elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ca828db\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In 1904, on the occasion of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception, Mgr Fran\u00e7ois-Xavier Schoepfer, Bishop of Tarbes, travelled to Rome with an official delegation including Dr Boissarie.<br \/>During their stay, different issues were discussed with the Holy See in view of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apparitions.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9fe6c26 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9fe6c26\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>One year later (<strong>1905<\/strong>), the Holy See confirmed to the Bishop of Tarbes \u2013 in his capacity as Guardian of the Grotto \u2013<strong>\u00a0the right to use the procedures of the Bureau des Constatations M\u00e9dicales to investigate any declared cures<\/strong>. This right is still valid today.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fb6de27 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fb6de27\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"parcours-listparcours\"><p class=\"intertitre\">The term \u201cBureau des Constatations M\u00e9dicales\u201d has two meanings.<\/p>\n\n<ol>\n \t<li class=\"intertitre\">In the first place, it means an office in the Sanctuary with permanent members, including a practising doctor who receives the declaration and starts a critical examination thereof. Italian-born Alessandro de Franciscis is the Bureau\u2019s 15th President. He assumed this office in 2009.<\/li>\n \t<li>If the case appears to be serious, the physician convenes a \u201cBureau\u201d, i.e. a meeting for \u201cdiscussion of a clinical case\u201d; all doctors and healthcare workers present in Lourdes at that time can attend the meeting, regardless of their religious belief.<\/li>\n<\/ol><\/span>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2ec2431 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2ec2431\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Today, most of the doctors and healthcare professionals coming to Lourdes are members of the Association M\u00e9dicale Internationale de Notre-Dame de Lourdes. On 6 September 1925, the Journal de la Grotte, the official organ of the Pilgrimage and of the Bureau des Constatations M\u00e9dicales, announced the establishment of an \u201cAssociation M\u00e9dicale de Notre-Dame de Lourdes\u201d at the suggestion of the Bishop of Tarbes, Mgr Fran\u00e7ois-Xavier Sch\u0153pfer, and of Dr M. Petitpierre, interim President of the Bureau des Constatations M\u00e9dicales. With the acronym AML, \u201can Association has been established among all Catholic doctors participating in Pilgrimages to Lourdes or directly interested in the Lourdes cures. The goal of this Association is to strengthen the relations among all these colleagues and thus facilitate the investigation of the ethos of Lourdes. (\u2026) The existence of the Association will not produce any change in the way the Bureau des Constatations M\u00e9dicales operates, which will remain open to all doctors wishing to participate, whether Catholic or not\u201d<span class=\"orange\"><sup>\u00a0(2)<\/sup><\/span>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-dd9f09a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"dd9f09a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Dr Auguste Vallet, President of the Bureau from 1927 to 1947, \u201cshortly after his arrival took the initiative of &#8230; transforming the Association M\u00e9dicale de Notre-Dame de Lourdes into an international body: it thus became\u00a0<strong>the Association M\u00e9dicale Internationale de Lourdes \u2013 better known under the acronym A.M.I.L<\/strong>. \u2013 in order to keep in touch all doctors from all continents wishing to maintain a lasting relationship with Lourdes after their visit to the Sanctuary. This development was compulsory for a very simple reason: It was (and, no doubt, it is) necessary that the qualifications the candidates may show or have in view of their admission and their explicit will be clearly known.<br \/>The creation of the new institution immediately required putting in place a Bulletin, a quarterly organ, the first issue of which was published in February 1928 and the publication of which was basically never discontinued since\u201d<sup><span class=\"orange\">(3)<\/span><\/sup>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-84ad602 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"84ad602\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>The AMIL comprises: APIL\u00a0<\/strong>(International Pharmacists\u2019 Association of Notre Dame de Lourdes, established in 1935), ADIL (International Dentists\u2019 Association of Notre Dame de Lourdes, established in 1991),\u00a0<strong>AILACS\u00a0<\/strong>(International Healthcare Workers Association of Notre Dame de Lourdes, established in 1993), and\u00a0<strong>AIIL\u00a0<\/strong>(International Nurses\u2019 Association of Notre Dame de Lourdes, established in 2014). The sitting President of the Bureau des Constatations M\u00e9dicales is also the President of the AMIL, the headquarters of which are located at the Bureau des Constatations M\u00e9dicales.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cb10198 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cb10198\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>A Lourdes Medical Committee was set up in 1947 by Mgr Pierre-Marie Th\u00e9as, Bishop of Tarbes and Lourdes, and by Dr Fran\u00e7ois Leuret, President of the Bureau des Constatations, coopting doctors and professors with excellent reputation in their respective work areas. In 1954, the Bishop wanted this Committee to acquire an international dimension. The members of the International Medical Committee of Lourdes have the task of assessing and, as<strong>\u00a0may be the case, \u201ccertifying\u201d that the course of the cure, which has been declared \u201cunexplained\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>by the Bureau des Constatations M\u00e9dicales of Lourdes, is indeed \u201cunexplained\u201d on the basis of current medical knowledge\u201d<span class=\"orange\"><sup>\u00a0(4)<\/sup><\/span>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-771150c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"771150c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>The International Medical Committee of Lourdes (CMIL)<\/strong>\u00a0has about thirty members. At the moment, it is jointly presided by the Bishop of Tarbes and Lourdes, Mgr Nicolas Brouwet, and by one of its members, Prof Olivier Jonquet, appointed by the Bishop for a renewable mandate.
