Giving Mary a rose, a gesture of love and faith<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

On 8th December, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception<\/strong><\/a>, a feast dedicated to the Virgin Mary, who was preserved from sin from the moment of her conception.<\/span>
In Lourdes<\/strong><\/a>, this feast has a special importance: it was here, in the Grotto<\/strong> <\/a>of Massabielle, that the Virgin Mary revealed her name<\/strong> <\/a>to Bernadette Soubirous<\/strong> <\/a>on 25th March 1858: \u2018I am the Immaculate Conception.\u2019<\/strong><\/em><\/span>
With these words, Mary confirmed the dogma proclaimed four years earlier by Pope Pius IX<\/strong><\/a>. Lourdes is therefore a perfect place to think about the mystery of grace and trust our lives, our families, and our world to the Immaculate Virgin.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Every year on 8th December, in Rome, the Pope goes to the Spanish Steps to offer a bouquet of flowers to the statue of the Immaculate Conception. A bouquet of roses will be laid in Rome on behalf of the Sanctuary of Lourdes while a vase of roses will also be placed in the Grotto of Massabielle, in spiritual communion.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

To extend this connection and floral tribute, the Sanctuary of Lourdes<\/strong><\/a> is inviting visitors to offer a white rose to the Virgin Mary. Offering a rose to Our Lady is a sign of love, gratitude and prayer.<\/strong> <\/span>
Since the first apparition, the rose has been linked to Our Lady of Lourdes: Bernadette saw the Virgin Mary with a yellow rose on each foot.<\/span>
