In 2026, Lourdes invites every pilgrim to embark on a journey of spiritual discovery.
Through the story of the Annunciation, the Sanctuary offers a profound spiritual journey: meditating on Mary at the beginning of her incredible journey of faith, when she confidently responded ‘yes’ to God’s call.
This journey is not only a spiritual one: it is also an invitation to make our pilgrimage the threshold of our own ‘yes’ to God’s will. To support this, the Sanctuary is undertaking major renovation and refurbishment work on its places of worship, so that they remain welcoming, dignified and accessible spaces for all.
In 2026, the underground Basilica of Saint Pius X will see its organ undergo a complete restoration, at a total cost of €130,000.
The work includes completely dismantling the instrument, thoroughly cleaning its 3,600 pipes, treating damage caused by cold and humidity, repairing the sound transmission system and installing protective grilles, which have become necessary due to birds getting inside.
This project, which will take at least three months to complete, is essential to ensure that music continues to support prayer and major celebrations in the Sanctuary.
A budget of €77,000 has been allocated to improving accessibility within the basilica. The huge pillars can pose a danger to visually impaired people. As a clever solution, benches will be installed at the foot of each pillar, making it safer to move around, preventing collisions and providing new seating for pilgrims.
The sacristies of St. Pius X Basilica will undergo a complete refurbishment, at a cost of €70,000.
The work will focus on the floors, paintwork and furniture.
The aim is for these spaces, which are essential for preparing celebrations, to be made more functional, dignified and suited to the intensity of the Sanctuary’s liturgical life.
The Basilica of Saint Pius X is the venue for large gatherings in Lourdes, hosting international Masses every Wednesday and Sunday at 9:30 am throughout the season. Spacious and bright, it is a special meeting place for pilgrims from all over the world. Every day, the 5 p.m. Eucharistic procession ends with a time of adoration and the blessing of the sick who are present. Like the saint after whom it is named, the basilica dedicated to Saint Pius X is a place of communion and gathering for the Church.
* Rehaussement de la réduction d’impôt pour les dons effectués au profit des associations cultuelles entre le 2 juin 2021 et le 31 décembre 2022 : vote définitif de la mesure dans la loi de finance rectificative n° 2021-953 du 19 juillet 2021. L’article 18 prévoit que le taux de la réduction d’impôt prévue au 1 de l’article 200 du code général des impôts est porté à 75 % pour les dons et versements, y compris l’abandon exprès de revenus ou produits, effectués entre le 2 juin 2021 et le 31 décembre 2022, au profit d’associations cultuelles ou d’établissements publics des cultes reconnus d’Alsace-Moselle. Les versements réalisés en 2021 sont retenus dans la limite de 554 euros. Pour les versements réalisés en 2022, cette limite est relevée dans la même proportion que la limite supérieure de la première tranche du barème de l’impôt sur le revenu de l’année 2021. Le montant obtenu est arrondi, s’il y a lieu, à l’euro supérieur. Il n’est pas tenu compte de ces versements pour l’application de la limite de 20 % du revenu imposable. Précision : ce plafond de 554€ est bien distinct de celui dit “amendement Coluche” qui permet de bénéficier d’une réduction à 75% pour certaines associations caritatives et humanitaires dites « organismes d’aide aux personnes en difficulté ». Il est bien possible de cumuler ces deux avantages.
