Solemnity of the Ascension

The Ascension, that is to say, the ascension of the Risen Jesus into heaven, takes place at the end of his last apparition to his Apostles, 40 days after Easter. This period of forty days, which extends the earthly life of Lord Jesus Christ to strengthen the faith of his people, reminds us of all the great encounters with God that Moses, Elijah, and the people of the first Covenant experienced. The glorious Christ ascends into heaven to sit at the right hand of God, as the Church confesses in the Creed. The humanity of Christ precedes that of his disciples at the heart of the life of the Holy Trinity, which is for them a source of great joy, because it is a precursor to their own glorification.
