Jesus said in reply, “Ten were cleansed, were they not? Where are the other nine? Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?” (Luke 17:17-18)

Thanksgiving

In 2020, there is plenty to complain and stress about in this time of pandemic and international politic changes, but we all have aspects of our lives and people in our lives to be thankful for. Thanksgiving is the acknowledgment that those blessings come from God. It is all the most necessary in this time of doubts and fears to express our gratitude for what we receive from this life, from our nation, our family and our beloved ones.
Almost 400 years after the first Thanksgiving was celebrated by pilgrims of Massachusetts in 1621, we also feel the need to celebrate for the first time a Thanksgiving Mass and Rosary in Lourdes.

Indeed American Pilgrims are prevented from coming to Lourdes despite their will to be in this holy place. Therefore we invite you to join us in our prayer in thanking God for his blessings. Join us in thanking Our Lady for her maternal protection.

Actually, “Eucharist” is Greek for “Thanksgiving”. (The Catechism of the Catholic Church  1328). On Thanksgiving, Chaplains in Lourdes will celebrate the Holy Eucharist and pray the Rosary for all your intentions. Of course, there will be very few people attending in Lourdes because of the lockdown in France but there will be thousands of believers united in prayers through television and social networks. We will thank God for all his blessings. We will ask Our Lady to protect you.
You can send your intentions and prayers below. If you would like to you can have a candle lit at the Grotto. You can also consider making a donation to the Sanctuary. In doing so, you will help us in sharing this message of joy and hope.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Sincerely yours in Christ,

Msgr Xavier d’Arodes
Vice rector
